Linda D. Valentine

Linda Darlene Valentine, 65, of Kings Run Lane, New Creek, WV, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, MD.

Born on October 22, 1947 at Keyser, WV, she was a daughter of the late Walter D. and Betty J. (Butts) Ferrebee. She also was preceded in death by a son, Anthony "Tony" Valentine and twin infant grandsons.

Mrs. Valentine was a 1965 graduate of Keyser High School. After graduating, she began her working career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. She then worked as an operator with the C & P Telephone Company in LaPlata, MD and after returning to West Virginia, assumed her father-in-law's rural route as a contract letter carrier with the United States Postal with the New Creek Post Office. She was also employed with Nationwide Insurance Company in Short Gap and has spent nearly the last 15 years as deputy clerk of the Circuit Court of Mineral County.

Mrs. Valentine was a member of the Rees Chapel United Methodist Church in New Creek, member and Past Worthy Matron of Alkire Chapter # 10, Order of the Eastern Star, Keyser, Past Mother Adviser of Rainbow Girls, Assembly # 16, Keyser, Keyser Kiwanis Breakfast Club, Auxiliary of the Ali Ghan Shrine Railroad Unit and the Family of Hope Relay for Life Team.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Thomas Lewis Valentine; her daughter, Laura Lynn Cox and husband Craig of New Creek, the "light of her life," her grandson, Zachary Cox; three sisters, Marilyn S. Langley and husband Gary of Nanjemoy, MD, Pamela A. Fredette and husband Jim of Colorado Springs, CO and Kristel L. Brown and husband Ricky of White Plains, MD; an aunt, Leavada Allen of Keyser; special "nieces," Helen and Tressie McCarty; four nieces, two nephews; seven grandnieces and nephews, several cousins and her special companions "Stupid Stanley" and "Russell T. Puss."

Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Alkire Chapter # 10, O.E.S. conducted a memorial service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Stemple officiating.

Interment wase in the Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Family of Hope Relay for Life Team, c/o Jean Cox, HC 84, Box 65-A, Keyser, WV 26726.
